We can accommodate special diets to a point since we are totally dependent upon donations.  In the past, we have been able to accommodate those individuals on low salt, no-salt, gluten free, peanut free and diabetic diets, as pantry supplies permit. What kinds of food does the pantry supply?

Since we are dependent on donations, not all items are available every week. However, distributions usually include a variety of canned goods including: vegetables, pasta, tomato sauce and fruit as well as canned protein such as tuna, chicken, beef, and beans.  We also regularly distribute cereal, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, rice, juices, pancake mix, syrup, condiments, snack items, coffee and tea as well as toiletries, paper goods, and cleaning supplies when available. Donations of bread and baked goods and seasonal vegetables from a local farm are distributed to families when available, as well as supermarket gift cards.

Can my teenager volunteer to obtain community service hours?

At this time we cannot accommodate on-site community service programs at the pantry itself, but we encourage teenagers or students wanting community service credit to organize food drives in their neighborhoods. We suggest making flyers to attach to bags that they can leave at their neighbors’ doors indicating only shelf stable, unopened and unexpired food is to be collected. It is important for the student to go through all the food before bringing it to the pantry to check that all items are unopened, unused, and unexpired. They can bring their service hours form to the pantry when they drop off the food and someone will sign it for them. Please call the food pantry at 973-595-1900 or e-mail info@winfoodpantry.org to schedule a time to drop-off the donations at the pantry.
